Mac apps I’ve been enjoying lately (both old and new):
- Ivory: welcome this fantastic Mastodon client to the Mac App Store!
- Tot: this replaced the built-in Stickies app for me. And it’s free!
- Silicio: luxurious mini-player that works with Apple Music and Spotify
- iA Writer: great for writing and has all the features I need to be my main notes store.
- Things: I’m not a todo junkie but I can’t keep everything in my head all the time. Things helps me remember what needs to be done.
I dislike the UI pattern of “floating action buttons” because they end up blocking some part of the app I want to click or read. I get why they exist, though.
It kind of pisses me off that I can’t take a screenshot of a Netflix video. I understand DRM to an extent but a single still seems like fair game idk.
(My only attempt was using macOS’ screenshot tool while using Firefox. I’m sure there are other ways.)
Very much enjoying Tycho this week for some reason. I think my favorite album is Epoch.
Yay just installed the Ivory Mac app! I’ve been using the test version and it’s been pretty great.
No one I know agrees with me but I like Apple Numbers. And the reason I like it is the reason most people I’ve asked don’t—Numbers let’s you put multiple tables on a page and move them around.

I shut down the blog but I maintain an archive of all the posts—going as far as to set up redirects of all the original URLs.
Unfortunately, that didn’t stop it from losing SEO juice. So he rarely gets credit for his accomplishment.
Because of that I like to give it the occasional shoutout.
Back in 2012 my brother, in a pee-holding-induced moment of inspiration, conjured up the concept of “pee math.” He published the seminal work, Pee Math, on my now-defunct disability blog, I Hate Stairs.
The term took hold in online communities and its usage made it all the way to the New York Times!

The thing that scares me about passkeys is that they seem to rely on devices with biometric security, which are difficult for me to use (because I can’t handle a phone).
